Dr Jeff Usher’s Last Seen

Last Seen partners renowned artists with vision impaired Australians to depict their most cherished visual memory.

During his time at St Edmund’s College, one of Jeff’s last memories was a trip to Sydney Town Hall, with music teacher Kathleen. It was late afternoon in Wahroonga when the setting sun caught the light of Kathleen’s lime green dress.  Remaining friends after he finished school, Jeff dedicated his PhD to her.

Artist: Meredith Howse

Award-winning Australian artist, Meredith Howse, was partnered with one of Queensland’s foremost jazz and blues artists, Dr Jeff Usher to depict an early childhood memory.

Meredith has symbolised Jeff’s affinity with the number 15 – a number he often uses in his music compositions. In her painting, there are 15 windows in the schoolhouse and 15 trees lining the street. Meredith has also incorporated braille into the initials KK in the number plate of the car.
